Thai food lovers will love Royal Thai! This romantic staple in Asian cuisine is a scrumptious mix of exotic taste and delightful service. Having two locations, Royal Thai dishes can be enjoyed by San Diegans everywhere.

The service of Royal Thai can be summed up with one word, pleasant. The staff at the restaurant are friendly and helpful (just in case you’re not familiar with what you’re ordering). Doing this, we were able to discover an absolute must have dish! An appetizer known as Katoang Thong or “Pot of Gold” features light crispy shells filled with chicken or vegetarian meat, onion, potato, spices with curry and served with cucumber chutney. It’s a delightful dish that will just melt in your mouth!

Our favorite entrees are the Panang Curry dishes and the Pad Thai. But of course, the Royal Thai menu features dishes yet to be discovered, so don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort level and try something new every time you visit. If you’re looking to save money, visit Royal Thai during lunch and take advantage of their lunch specials (M-F 11am to 3pm).

For dessert, the Coconut Ice Cream is an excellent way to end your meal. However all of the dessert dishes are certainly worth a try.

Satisfy your love pallete at The Cottage

Located near the Cove in La Jolla, The Cottage is situated in the heart of romance and relaxation. The cute and quaint restaurant is a favorite among locals and tourists alike who desire that “at home dining” experience. Our favorite dining menu at The Cottage is their breakfast. But they also offer a splendid lunch and dinner menu too!

However, should you be there for an early morning breakfast, Love Bug would like to recommend the Cottage’s world famous French Toast! It’s absolutely scrumptious and wonderful! However, if you’re not in the mood for the French Toast, the cottage offers Omelettes, Egg Benedicts and also a great selection from of baked goods from their bakery.

On top of all that, their staff is super friendly and always willing to meet their customers needs. They really make the dining experience worthwhile and fuel that “at home” feeling.

Tip#1: The Cottage opens early at 7:30am for breakfast however it’s advisable you get there early for choice seating

Tip#2: If it looks really busy outside, inquire about indoor seating. Chances are, there are a lot of seats available inside.

Tip#3: Always take home a muffin, they are to die for. SD Love Bug recommends the Raspberry Millet and Pumpkin Nut!

Melt your lovers heart at the Melting Pot

If you and your lover are thinking about a great location for an intimate affair, you must checkout The Melting Pot! Located in La Jolla, The Melting Pot specializes in a communal dining experience simply known as fondue. The atmosphere is a sweet mixture of delicious food, excellent service and stimulating romance. While inside, guests are immersed in dim light which is further enhanced by fondue smoke. This serves as the perfect backdrop for a couples special night. They also have private booth seating available which is perfect for lovers to sit close while sharing the fondue experience.

At The Melting Pot, we had the taste of the high life. Upon entering, we were greeted warmly by our host and hostess who quickly seated us. Mind you, reservations were made before hand. The Melting Pot can get very busy on some nights, and by making a reservation (via Open Table), we were able to be seated promptly.

Our server Matt, was outstanding. He provided something very rare to our dining experience, interaction. Matt was an individual who prides himself on communicating with his guests rather than just serving them food. This made us feel at home (being that this was our first time to the Melting Pot).

The food was fantastic! We ordered a fondue dinner which comprised of 3 courses. Our first course was an appetizer with a cheese base, served with bread, apple slices and fresh veggies. The second course involved the a special seasoned hot pot served with a scrumptious assortment of meat, seafood and vegetables.

The final course was the fun part, the dessert! We were treated with a Yin and Yang style blend of white and dark chocolate. It was topped off with our very own special assortment of brownies, strawberries, cheese cake, marshmallows and even rice crispy treats!

Overall, the Love Bug had a great time and implores you to try out The Melting Pot for yourself!

Tip #1: Save money by buying the dinner for two meal! It’s way more than enough for the entire couple.

Tip #2: When making your reservation… to add extra romance, if you’re dining for an Anniversary or Birthday you can special request Balloons and Flowers to be at the table when you arrive.
